Ginger Tea / Adrakwali Chai
‘Doing nothing is respectable at tea!’ What could be more satisfying than easing yourself into a comfortable chair and sipping a cup of your favourite tea? Nothing is as refreshing and relaxing to me.Unfortunately I don’t really get such moments during weekdays but I love my Chai. So it is mostly a weekend affair for me.
Chai is a spiced milk tea very popular in India and has recently caught global attention. 🙂 And for those who wonder, why I do not refer to it as Chai Tea. It is Chai – not Chai Tea. I never really understood the concept of Chai tea, these marketing professionals use. In many Eurasian languages, chai or cha is the word for tea. Chai is Tea! It is like saying TEA- TEA. That’s sounds funny 🙂 Well for now, let’s get back to the making of the perfect cup of Chai. 🙂
How one makes tea is a matter of personal choice. Some like it strong, or milky, with more or less spice flavor. Try it a couple of times to see what suits you best. Today I share my favourite – Ginger Tea or ‘Adrakwali Chai’
Serves: 2
INGREDIENTS
1 cup Water
1 cup Milk
2 tsp black tea leaves
¼ inch Ginger, grated
2 cardamom pods
2 tsp Sugar or to taste
METHOD:
- Heat water in a pan on medium flame.
- Crush cardamom seeds using a mortar & pestle and set aside.
- Add grated ginger & crushed cardamom seeds to water.
- Once the water is hot, add the sugar and tea leaves.
- Let it come to a rolling boil.
- Lower the heat and add milk
- Simmer for two minutes or longer if you want the flavor to be stronger.
- Strain the chai into the cup using a strainer.
- Serve hot
