Fruit Sando/Japanese Fruit Sandwich

Have you heard or tried Fruit Sando or Japanese Fruit Sandwich?

Juicy fresh fruits tucked in chilled whipped cream between two slices of soft milk bread. These colourful sandwiches with strawberries, orange, and kiwi are perfect for breakfast and snack!

Honestly, I was a little sceptical, but it really works. And the symmetrical fruits make the centrepiece for this sandwich adds to the dreamy factor and aesthetics

I bet this will be the star sandwich for your kids you want to make over and over again. You could serve it as breakfast, afternoon snack, or picnic sandwich. Great way to get kids to get their fruits in a fun way and use up some leftover fruits. Do try these out, they will surely brighten your day.

This really needs no recipe but here is how to make Fruit Sando or Japanese Fruit Sandwich my way:

Fruit Sando/Japanese Fruit Sandwich

INGREDIENTS:

4 slices white bread

1 cup heavy whipping cream

5 tsp sugar or as per taste

Seasonal fruits of your choice

METHOD:

 To Prepare Fruits:

  1. Remove the core of strawberries.
  2. Cut off both ends of the orange. Remove the peel. Carefully peel off the segment wall and get each segment out.
  3. Using a paper towel, remove the moisture of the fruits.

To make the Sandwich:

  1. Whisk cold heavy whipping cream starting at low speed.
  2. Once it foams a little, add sugar and start whisking at medium-high speed.
  3. Check the consistency of the whipped cream as you whisk. It should be spreadable but not runny.
  4. Now spread the whipped cream on both sides of the sandwich bread.
  5. Align the fruits on the cream only on one slice of bread. Think carefully about how you want to show your cross-section. I recommend taking a picture of the alignment of the fruits and don’t change the orientation of the sandwich.
  6. Put the whipped cream to fill in any gap between fruits.
  7. Put the second slices of sandwich bread over the fruits, facing the whipped cream side down.
  8. Prepare plastic wrap, large enough to wrap the sandwich tightly from all four sides.
  9. Remember, don’t change the orientation of the sandwich.
  10. Mark the cross-section over the plastic wrap with a pen. This will help you remember which diagonal to cut.
  11. Put some weight on the sandwiches and refrigerate for at least one hour or overnight.
  12. Open the plastic wrap and cut the sandwich in half diagonally with a clean knife. Clean the knife with a hot wet towel before each cut.
  13. Serve immediately. Keep it chilled at all times.
